A wonderfully decorative 19th century French upholstered armchair, dating from the Napoleon III period, with a deeply buttoned back and beautifully shaped silhouette.
The chair has a generous, enveloping form with a high button-tufted back, gently curved arms and a broad upholstered seat. The sweeping lines of the back and arms give it a particularly elegant profile, while the dark ebonised front legs provide a lovely contrast against the pale, timeworn upholstery.
The existing fabric has a wonderfully faded, lived-in appearance with historic marks, wear and small losses throughout. We especially love the pair of tassels suspended from the upper arms, which give the chair an additional sense of faded French grandeur.
