A charming early 20th century French oil on panel depicting the magnificent Gothic entrance of the Église Saint-Taurin in Évreux, Normandy. Executed with confident, impressionistic brushwork, the artist beautifully captures the rich architectural detail of the medieval church, softened by a restrained palette of warm ochres, muted greens and soft blue-grey tones.
The reverse is inscribed ‘St Taurin’, identifying the subject as the historic abbey church, one of Normandy’s most significant Romanesque and Gothic monuments. The painting is signed lower left and is attributed to Georges Anquetin, whose works frequently depict French architectural landmarks and historic streets.
Presented in its original carved and painted wooden frame with a beautifully aged patina, this is a wonderfully decorative and characterful piece, ideal for lovers of French architecture and timeless European interiors.
